Leni Robredo’s Vice Presidency is being challenged by Bong Bong Marcos. According to the allegations made and evidence shown by Bong Bong so far, Leni Robredo either cheated or was a beneficiary of a massive poll fraud. Senator Sotto also recently delivered a privileged speech in the Philippine Senate showing proof of serious anomalies in the most recent automated national election in the Philippines. Senator Sotto alleges that evidence given to him showed that the vote counting machines were already transmitting results a full day before the election actually started.
Leni Robredo did not hesitate to jump on this revelation by Senator Sotto. According to Robredo, this revelation casts doubt on the entire result of the 2016 election. Her lawyers have made this argument before to defend against Bong Bong’s electoral protest. They said, if Bong Bong is correct that there were serious anomalies in the transmission of votes electronically, then we have to doubt the result of the entire election.
This strategy by the Liberal Party is dirty and tactical. They do not care about the sacredness of our democratic institutions as long as they stay in power. They would rather destroy the integrity of our national election than to lose their grip on power. For Leni to declare the entire national election as doubtful is selfish and sneaky. Just because she cheated, does not mean everyone else who won cheated. They are very desperate right now that they are willing to destroy the trust that the Filipino people has left on the election process. In the 2010 election, Mar Roxas questioned the win of VP Binay, but they never questioned the integrity of the entire election result. Why? Because they were already in power. Asking the same question Leni is asking now would have meant questioning the legitimacy of Abnoy’s win. Since it is not Liberal Party sitting as president now, they have no hesitation questioning the integrity of the entire election. This kind of attitude is a hallmark of arrogance and delusion.
This kind of nuclear option the Robredo camp and the Liberal party is using also puts into question their honesty and sincerity. Only real crooks and cheaters have the attitude of; “If we don’t win, then no one should.” They do not defend their win by proving the accusers wrong, instead they want to bring the entire house down. We have to watch this election re-count real closely and we have to fight this kind of propaganda from the Liberal party.
