Let me introduce you to Loida Nicholas Lewi’s knight in shining Armour – Atty. Rodel Rodis. He is an immigration lawyer and regular Inquirer contributor. In this email in the Global Filipino Diaspora Group dated 15Nov16, Loida Nicholas Lewis thanked Mr. Rodis for being her knight in shining Armour and congratulating him for a well researched and well articulated article in the Inquirer. Here is a snapshot of the message:
So what did Mr. Rodis write that would make him worthy of the title knight in shining armour to a billionaire damsel in distress? He defended Loida Lewis from a supposed “attack” by President Duterte when he delivered a speech to the Integrated Bar of the Philippines on 14Nov16. What was the attack? Here is an excerpt from Rodel Rodis:
So according to this US-Based immigration lawyer, when President Duterte mentioned that he knows Loida was organizing a massive protest, he was attacking Loida Lewis. That by calling her out for organizing a massive protest against his administration, he was endangering Loida Lewis. Let us un-pack his logic here.
According to Mr. Rodis, he put Loida Lewis in danger by unmasking her as organizing a major protest against his administration. How exactly she was put in danger is vague as hell. Mr. Rodis tried to prove his point by showing how some people in social media started being critical of Loida. So even though Duterte never verbally attached Loida since someone who supports him attached her verbally then Duterte was being malicious? Hmmm. Fascinating logic. Loida Lewis is a vocal critic and she has come out asking Duterte to resign. The recent #LeniLeaks shows the fact that she is also active in organizing protests against Duterte and openly asking him to step down. It is easy for Mr. Rodis to claim Loida was put in danger, in fact anyone can claim that, but to prove actual harm is another thing. He even went on to say that Duterte “unmasking” Loida was a malicious attack. How was that malicious? He was just openly saying he knows who his enemies are. Is that silencing dissent?
In his reply to Loida’s praise for his writing genius in their Yahoo groups, Mr. Rodis had this to say:
Aww. So cute. I would have asked him if he wears Yellow panties too. That definitely counts.
Looking at other Articles written by Mr. Rodis, I came across this very interesting one:
According to Mr. Rodis, Filipinos supporting Duterte’s war on drugs can be deported under the Anti-Atrocity Alien Deportation Act of the US. He said the act states:
Under this subsection E is: “iii) COMMISSION OF ACTS OF TORTURE OR EXTRAJUDICIAL KILLINGS- Any alien who, outside the United States, has committed, ordered, incited, assisted, or otherwise participated in the commission of– (I) any act of torture, as defined in section 2340 of title 18, United States Code; or (II) under color of law of any foreign nation, any extrajudicial killing, as defined in section 3(a) of the Torture Victim Protection Act of 1991 (28 U.S.C. 1350 note), is inadmissible.”
Here is another great example of Mr. Rodis dumb as fu*k logic. There are allegations for EJK launched against Duterte. There has been no proof that could stand in court linking Duterte to an EJK case. The Commission on Human Rights has investigated him in the past while he was mayor for alleged involvement with the Davao Death Squad yet their investigation did not find any evidence that would stand in court to prove conclusively that Duterte is guilty of EJK. Despite the absence of proof Mr. Rodis insists that Duterte is guilty of EJK. Keep in mind this guy is a lawyer. If he has such a low threshold for admissible proof then I would not hire him to be my lawyer for anything. So now that Mr. Rodis has “linked” Duterte with EJK he makes another gargantuan leap in logic. Here is what he says:
Just in case you missed that here it is again: “If they truthfully answered that they assisted Duterte by enthusiastically supporting his killings, their tourist visa application will likely be rejected” and “it van certainly be argued that endorsing/ cheering Duterte’s slaughter of innocents (they are all innocent because they were never even charged with a crime much less convicted of a crime) is a way of being involved in the extrajudicial killings of Duterte.” So based on Mr. Rodis’ logic, based on unproven allegations that the Duterte drug war is a state sponsored campaign of EJK, if one supports the war on drugs then one is guilty of assisting Duterte with EJK and therefore can be grounds for deportation or inadmissibility to the USA.
Mr. Rodis was also not being truthful in his article about the law he claims can be a reason for deporting Duterte supporters overseas. Here is the section of the Anti-Atrocity Alien Deportation Act he mentioned in his article (source):
The key section here is “extrajudicial killing, as defined in section 3(a) of the Torture Victim Protection Act of 1991. Mr. Rodis conveniently skipped over this because it would be inconvenient to his propaganda. So how does article 3(a) of the Torture Victim Protection Act of 1991 define Extrajudicial killing? (source)
So if a drug personality fights back against the police and gets killed, is that not lawful under Philippine authority? Please review the rule of engagement of the Philippine National Police Mr. Rodis.
Even with such gapping holes in his logic, Mr. Rodis actually got a lot of praise from his friends in the Global Filipino Diaspora Council:
They seem to have forgotten the mess this guy was involved in when he was a member of the Board of Trustee of the San Francisco Community College in the past. Here is a good article that talks about the money laundering scheme (source):
This person is Loida Lewi’s knight in shining armour.
