Senator Antonio Trillanes recently proclaimed himself as the most productive senator in the country. He touted filling over 300 bills and resolution in the Senate as of May 2018. He mentioned this to defend himself from a report that showed him missing the most Senate sessions. According to that report Trillanes was only present in 52 out of 79 session, that’s an absenteeism rate of 34{560c5a826b9d0f79d9056f2e452d35fface599afff45834a592fa1a3f7fd1a74}.
The way Trillanes defended himself is telling and a clear testament to the kind of twisted coward this fool is. Trillanes wants you to believe that despite his absences he is the most productive because he filed over 300 bills in less time spent in the Senate floor. He wants us to believe that a Senator’s job is only to write bills and resolutions and sign it. He wants you to believe that he personally wrote and signed those over 300 bills and resolutions that has his name and signature on it. This is a big fat lie. First, no legislator ever writes a Bill them self, that’s what legislative staff is for. Second, not all those 300 bills and resolutions were initiated by Trillanes, it could have been written by another Senator’s staff and he just signed over his name. Whether he actually read all the bills and resolutions he signed is up for debate. Third, and most importantly, having his name and signature on a bill or resolution is just a small step in the entire legislative process. The real job for a legislator begins not in signing over his name on a piece of paper but in the leg work involved in getting a bill passes. The true worth of a Senator is in the number of bills passed into law and that requires your presence in the Senate.
Remember your high school lesson on how bills become law in the Philippines? Let me give you a refresher on the steps.
- Preparation of the bill by the legislator’s office.
- First Reading
- Committee Consideration
- Second Reading
- Third Reading
- Transmittal to the other house
- Action taken by the other house
- Conference Committee
- Transmittal of the bill to the President
- President signs the bill into law
Signing over your name on a bill is the least important part of the legislative process and this nitwit is proud of it. The real work is in being present to defend the bill, promote it to other legislators, making sure it gets passed the Committee hearings, finding the votes, fighting amendments that try to water it down, getting support in the other house, forming coalitions in both houses to secure bi-partisan support, etc. So much work goes into getting a bill passed into law and all of it requires ones presence on the floor. Trillanes may have his name and signature in over 300 bills and resolutions but the reality is he was barely there to ensure they get the necessary votes and support to become law. This is trademark Trillanes, he allows himself to be a tool for other people. The fact that this asshole is barely there and is proud of it shows how disgustingly devoid of any shame this fool is. A Senator is there to make laws that will benefit the people. Their job is ensuring bills they believe in gets passed into law. This lazy traitor on the other hand is content on being a rubber stamp. As long as he can sign over his name he is happy with it. That to me is the best definition of a door mat senator.
